If you’re considering orthodontic treatment you may be weighing your options. It can be tough to know whether you need braces or clear aligners. Invisalign is a great option for those who don’t want a noticeable visual impact on their smile while they’re in treatment.
Adults can come up with plenty of reasons not to make that first trip to the orthodontist. However, your first visit doesn’t have to end with a mouth full of metal wires and brackets. Invisalign has been helping patients reach the smiles of their dreams for over 20 years. At Mill Creek Orthodontics, we want to show you what it can do for you, too!
Should I Get Invisalign as an Adult?
Although popular belief claims it’s mainly for teenagers, Invisalign clear aligners can benefit anyone. On top of correcting crooked or gapped teeth that affect your self-confidence, Invisalign can avoid serious dental concerns originating from improper oral hygiene.
Crossbites and crowded or crooked teeth can become a breeding ground for bacteria and plaque. Furthermore, crowded teeth are difficult to brush or floss completely, leading to tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss over time.
Invisalign for adults can avert future dental issues while straightening your teeth and providing other benefits.
Other Benefits of Clear Aligners for Adults
Invisibility
The most evident benefit of these clear aligners for adults is near invisibility. The transparent plastic is so discreet that you can smile for photos and speak to people, and no one but you will know you are straightening your teeth.
With no trace of unsightly brackets and wires, you won’t have to worry about changing your appearance to transform your smile.
Removability
You can easily remove the Invisalign trays throughout the day. Although Dr. Markus will recommend you don’t leave the trays off for more than two hours each day, you can remove them long enough to play contact sports, eat your favorite meals, and brush and floss without interference.
Some orthodontic appliances limit your snacking options and complicate your oral hygiene routines. With Invisalign, you can go about your daily activities normally.
Comfort
Invisalign consists of smooth, thin plastic material that fits comfortably over your teeth like a mouthguard. Their comfort makes them easier to wear day and night without discomfort.
How Can I Start My Treatment Plan?
A treatment plan for Invisalign for adults starts with a free consultation from Dr. Markus. We will identify the steps needed to attain a straight, perfect smile, which can include closing gaps between your teeth or spacing out crowded teeth.
Next, a 3D scan will examine your teeth, gums, and jawline, and Dr. Markus will model multiple sets of aligners based on the alignment of your teeth. The first aligner will match the state of your current teeth, and your final set will be your straight smile.
Every two weeks, you’ll switch out your current aligners for a new set, and every two to three months, you’ll visit our office for a follow-up.
How Much Does Adult Invisalign Cost?
While Invisalign can range wildly and the cost of the procedure depends heavily on the amount of work Dr. Markus needs to do and the number of aligners necessary.
However, Invisalign can cost as much as any other treatment. Luckily though, insurance often covers some of the costs. Check with our team for more on costs.
How Long Does Treatment Last?
This orthodontic treatment for adults typically lasts 12 to 18 months, while traditional braces may last up to 2 years.
Can I Switch From Braces to Invisalign?
Depending on your case, you may be able to switch from braces to Invisalign. However, it’s usually best to get the significant realignment done with braces before moving to Invisalign for adults.
